Painting Aluminum – What Product To Use

Painting Aluminum

Painting Aluminum:

So, you have some aluminum trim or some bare aluminum window frames to paint?

There is no trick to painting it other than going to the paint store and buying a latex primer that says it “grabs to all new and previously painted metals”.

If it is a general-purpose primer it can be used for interior and exterior painting.

If you have some aluminum window frames to paint just clean them up with some 220-grit sandpaper, wipe them down with a damp rag or at least clean them up with a whiskbroom and then prime them up.

After they dry you can top coat them with an interior or exterior paint and it will hold up just fine. To make painting easier, I would use an angular tip paintbrush. A 2-inch brush works best. The paint stores have professional brushes that will last you for years if taken care of properly.
